Personality

Grave and blunt, Kokuyo often spoke in an archaic, old-fashioned register. He dismissed emotion and companionship as pointless distractions that only dragged down efficiency, extended little trust to anyone, and fixed himself entirely on his mission. His ruthlessness ran deep enough that he would strike down allies who could not keep pace rather than leave loose ends, framing such killings as a merciful end that let them die with their dignity intact. Growing stronger was, to him, the very reason he existed. Combat-minded and quick to read an opponent's tactics, he possessed formidable resolve, breaking free of a mind-control technique with ease. Unlike the other artificial humans, he felt no urge to mimic humanity, regarding himself instead as a superior kind of being.

History

Though he could not perform jutsu, Kokuyo made up for it with superhuman power, capable of overwhelming several Leaf jonin with an Akuta at his side. He moved at blistering speed, once catching Sarada off guard despite her Sharingan, and struck with crushing force. His signature weapons were a pair of tonfa that he hurled like boomerangs, flinging them at foes and snatching them back as they returned, with enough power to shatter the ground.

The day after a Five Kage Summit convened in Konoha, Kokuyo and Sekiei assaulted the guards at the village gate, left them comatose, and made off with Mitsuki toward the Land of Earth. Sensing pursuit, he sent Sekiei ahead while he turned to face the trailing shinobi, cutting down the chunin before confronting a group of Leaf genin. He grew impressed enough by the coordinated efforts of Boruto, Shikadai, and Sarada to fight in earnest, and after the arriving reinforcements forced him back, he rejoined the others just as Mitsuki proved his allegiance by striking Boruto down. That display won Kokuyo's trust.

As Sekiei's body began to fail, Kokuyo returned to base for aid and later conferred with Kako on whether to dissect Mitsuki, choosing to await orders. When Ku seized control of the operation and Onoki refused to spend lives on his goals, the plan unraveled. Kokuyo intercepted the fleeing genin and adapted swiftly to the Ino-Shika-Cho's formations, driving them back until a trap and the intervention of a small Akuta named Akkun let Chocho deliver the finishing blow. Astonished that foes he deemed weak had beaten him, he listened as Shikadai insisted their compassion and trust in one another were the source of their strength. Kokuyo scoffed that he had no heart of his own, but Shikadai countered that his defeat proved otherwise, a thought he mulled over as he died.
