Appearance

Brown eyes sit beneath black hair that falls to the jaw and gathers loosely at the neck. Though heavyset for much of his introduction, Michiru still stands at roughly the same height as Kakashi Hatake, and a later stretch of exercise, paired with an implied change of diet, strips away much of that bulk. His ex-wife hints that he carried far less weight during their marriage.

As a prince his wardrobe centres on a sleeveless blue robe over white trousers, finished with a scarf patterned in white, yellow, and blue triangles. He tops the look with a red hat and favours pearls and other jewellery. Once he takes the throne the outfit stays largely the same, though he sets aside the hat and ornaments and swaps in a robe with white sleeves.

Personality

A lifetime of indulgence left Michiru spoiled, reliant on others, and convinced that money and luxury outrank everything else. Restraint escapes him: he once dropped a billion on a circus simply because it amused him, and he tries to win back his former wife by dangling extravagant gifts. That cheer curdles into childish whining the moment circumstances turn against him, and he treats his staff so poorly that an earlier set of escorts abandoned their posts. He extends the same carelessness to Team 7, lounging in his carriage while they battle bandits, feasting with his son while the shinobi go without, and sleeping in warm bedding while the ninja make do outdoors on thin futons.

Only near the end of the kingdom's rebellion does he find his courage, standing with Naruto to bring down Ishidate and Shabadaba and finally grasping that wealth is not everything. When Naruto's leg is crippled mid-fight, Michiru hoists him up and carries him into range for the Crescent Moon Rasengan, pressing forward despite wounds to his thigh and stomach, a brief but genuine act of bravery.

History

Three years before the death of his father, King Kakeru Tsuki, Michiru's wife Amayo ended their marriage, unable to bear his obsession with money, a fixation he could not even recognise. A clause in their wedding contract handed him custody of their son, Hikaru. When Kakeru moved to deal with the corrupt minister Shabadaba, he shipped Michiru and Hikaru abroad under cover of a tour through neighbouring lands. Their mistreatment of their escorts drove those guards to quit, which is how Kakashi, Naruto, Sakura, and Lee came to be hired in their place.

Visiting Amayo, Michiru finds she no longer recognises him beneath his added weight, and once she does she tells him he has not changed at all, still blind to what truly counts, even as he offers her a fortress or the whole Land of the Moon. Back home he mourns his father, slain by Ishidate. Shabadaba's men later seize Michiru and sentence him to hang, but Hikaru, the circus performers, and Team Kakashi reach the gallows in time. In the aftermath he takes the throne, keeps up his exercise regimen, and, watching the shinobi depart, tells Hikaru they ought to go and see his mother.
