History

Hoping her daughter might know an ordinary life, Miroku hid the truth of Shion's abilities and forbade the guards from schooling her in any ninjutsu. As a safeguard she entrusted Shion with a special bell, a charm meant to both restrain and protect the girl's power, though rescuing Shion typically demanded that someone else be offered in her place. A master of fuinjutsu, Miroku had already bound the demon Moryo with a sealing technique. When she and Moryo at last clashed and the demon moved to devour Shion rather than her, Miroku gave up her life to shield her daughter, sealing the creature away in the same stroke. The protective bell she left behind carried strong wards for Shion and would help seal Moryo again later on.
