Ningame

Character

Ningame is Might Guy's loyal summoning tortoise, a stern but soft-hearted creature who mirrors his master's discipline and his tears alike. Old-fashioned about the shinobi code, he appears to school Rock Lee and to aid Guy in a pinch.

Appearance

Ningame is a great tortoise whose red shell carries a yellow belly, swirling patterns across the top, and yellow rings framing his eyes. A Konoha forehead protector hangs at his neck, and an orange wrapping binds his right foreleg. Between his Part I and Part II showings he seems to have grown noticeably bigger.

Personality

Ningame tends toward a grave, no-nonsense manner, as when he rebukes Lee for reaching for the Front Lotus against Sasuke. For all that severity, he weeps as readily as Guy himself does, breaking into tears when Lee embraces his teacher to apologise.

History

In the anime, Guy once called Ningame out hoping to bind him in a contract with his pupil Tenten, but she gave offence and the tortoise declined. His best-known moment comes during the lead-up to the Chūnin Exams, when Lee squared off against Sasuke Uchiha and Ningame appeared to stop the boy from unleashing the Front Lotus, chiding him before Guy landed atop the shell and the trio dissolved into shared tears. Years later, during the countdown to the Fourth Shinobi World War, Guy summoned him in mid-air while pursuing Kisame Hoshigaki after Killer B flung him forward. Grumbling that he had not been called in ages, and never mid-flight, Ningame served as a springboard, tumbled to the earth, bounced off the shell of an enormous tortoise, and was left astonished when that giant claimed to be little more than a hatchling. He also turns up in games such as Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2, gliding and spinning across the field to batter anyone in reach, and acts as a supporting summon in Naruto Mobile, raising an earthen wall for defence.
