Pakkun

Pakkun is a little pug with brown fur, his snout and ears a deeper brown and his paw pads a soft pink. He wears the standard dress of Kakashi's hounds, a blue vest bearing the heno-heno-moheji face-mark, and sports a Konoha forehead protector perched atop his head much the way Sakura Haruno wears hers. A bandage is wrapped around his right foreleg.

Cute as he looks, Pakkun speaks in a deep, gravelly voice and refers to himself with a term normally reserved for older men. He also, to Sakura's horror, uses the very same brand of shampoo she does. Beneath his lazy manner runs a fierce streak of pride and determination: when Sai once offered to carry a message with one of his ink beasts, Pakkun insisted on doing the job himself rather than be shown up. He is deeply loyal to his allies and often frustrated that he cannot throw himself directly into a fight.

Pakkun is no fighter, a fact Sakura guessed at a glance, yet he is among the most valuable summons Kakashi commands. His nose is extraordinary even for a dog: he can name a scent, gauge how far off it lies and how dangerous its owner is, and in the anime he even sniffs out a target hidden by concealment techniques. He is startlingly fast, able to outpace grown ninja, and strong enough to haul a reluctant Shikamaru along behind him.

Working with the rest of the pack, he slips into practiced offensive and defensive formations, and he can spin clones of himself out of his own fur. Kakashi calls on him again and again to run down his quarry, from the missing-nin Zabuza Momochi and the defecting Sasuke to Sasori, Itachi Uchiha, and the exploding tags planted aboard the Tobishachimaru.
