Rinji

Dark brown hair and black eyes marked Rinji. He wore a loose purple vest left open to bare his chest, with bandages winding over the rest of his midriff. A pale blue poncho-style piece sat around his neck, and he rounded out the look with black wrist warmers, tan trousers, and dark brown sandals.

Rinji wore a relaxed air and rarely let anything rattle him, though that ease concealed a sharp, methodical mind. He carried real ambition too: he aimed to take Kabuto's place in reporting to Orochimaru, a bid that put Kabuto's standing as right-hand man at risk and got him killed for it. The two were, fittingly, cut from similar cloth, each having spent long years posing as a spy and feigning a warm, kindly front to better deceive the people they targeted.

Rinji commanded bats. He could steer them and have them emit ultrasonic waves both to talk with them and to chart his surroundings, passing orders along to those under him. A personal sonar sense let him catch sound over a broad radius, and by turning the noise his bats made into a weapon he could throw off an opponent's mind and balance while staying immune to Guren's Crystal Release. Once Kabuto and Guren wrapped up their selection battle, he fell under her command and headed the push to wipe out Kakashi and Team Kurenai, though he called for a pullback the moment Shino Aburame's insects closed in. It later came out that he was Orochimaru's spy, slipped in to keep watch on Guren, having spent years working into villages and even into Orochimaru's dungeon as a phony prisoner. He claimed he did it all to support an ailing sister in a faraway village. His cover broke when strange behaviour proved to be Kabuto in disguise, who owned up to murdering the real Rinji. As Guren moved to escape with Yukimaru, Kabuto raised the true Rinji with the Dead Soul Technique, whose bats' ultrasonic waves cracked her Crystal Release apart; to guard Yukimaru, Guren encased both herself and Rinji in crystal and dropped with him into the lake.
