Sumashi is a special jōnin of Iwagakure, and the only ninja of that rank in the series who hails from outside Konoha. He ambushes Team Minato in the Third Great Shinobi War and meets his end once Minato flashes to his students.
Sumashi wears his black hair cropped short, set below thick brows and small, dark eyes. His outfit is the usual Iwagakure kit: a flak jacket, sandals, a headband tied bandanna-fashion, and a shirt sleeved on the left alone, its lapel trailing down the right of his waist.
By all accounts, Sumashi is a confident sort.
In the Third Great Shinobi War, Sumashi and his squad ambush Team Minato after the young shinobi cross into Iwagakure ground. He mockingly praises them for the feat, then turns on Kakashi once he and Rin Nohara have slipped free of the collapsing ground that claimed their comrade Obito Uchiha. A practitioner of Earth Release, he reaches for the Tearing Earth Turning Palm hoping to bury the squad alive. His luck runs out when Kakashi throws the special kunai entrusted to him by Minato; alerted, Minato Namikaze teleports to his students, and Sumashi is presumed dead in the instant that follows.
