Personality

Entitled yet oddly courteous, Tentō looks down on cheap comforts like inexpensive tea thanks to his pampered upbringing and answers being told no by simply throwing money at the problem. He addresses people politely and keeps a pleasant manner even while belittling them, seemingly without noticing, and he collects the Extreme: Shinobi Picture Scrolls cards with dogged patience.

Beneath the privilege is a lonely child starved for the attention of a distant father, at his lowest whenever the man brushes him off. He dreams of becoming a ninja so people will admire him and his father will finally see him, and Boruto's friendship taught him the worth of steady effort and selflessness, a lesson he showed by being ready to take his own life rather than let bandits use him against his father.

History

Visiting Konoha with his father, Tentō bought out a store's entire stock of collectable cards, then felt brushed aside when the daimyō left for a meeting with the Seventh Hokage. In the anime he clashed with the genin Iwabee over a rare Hokage card, buying up Iwabee's favorite haunts to pressure him until Boruto stepped in, insisting that money made no one special. Intrigued, Tentō hired Boruto as his bodyguard and, after offering a coveted card in exchange for ninjutsu lessons, was instead taught shurikenjutsu for free.

Discouraged that he could barely throw a shuriken, Tentō opened up about wanting his father to notice him, and Boruto, who understood the feeling, urged him to keep at it until he finally struck the target. The two became genuine friends, trading cards and promising future visits, and Tentō secretly tucked the rare card into Boruto's pocket.

He was soon abducted by the Mujina Bandits, who demanded a huge ransom and the release of the prisoners in Hōzuki Castle, revealing that his attendant Yamaoka had been their leader Shojoji in disguise. Mocked over his dream, Tentō remembered Boruto's lessons, seized the fallen shuriken, and tried to kill himself to foil the plot before Boruto arrived. He aided the fight by hurling the shuriken into Shojoji's back, letting Boruto land a finishing Rasengan, and after reuniting with his father he accepted Boruto's insistence that he earn the rare card himself.
