Summary

What looks like Itachi tearing out his brother's eyes turns out to be a trap of the mind. Sasuke seems to lose his right Sharingan and nearly his left, saving himself only with a single cursed-seal wing, until the whole sequence dissolves and is exposed as Tsukuyomi. That Sasuke could break free of a Mangekyō illusion with an ordinary Sharingan stuns both Itachi and the watching Zetsu. Black Zetsu explains it as raw mastery, comparing a stone thrown by an expert outclassing a shuriken flung by a novice.

With Itachi buckling from the strain in his eyes, Sasuke unseals a pair of fūma shuriken and throws them, concealing the second in the first's shadow, then yanks them onto his brother with wire strings for a hit. Itachi's uncharacteristic slowness is revealed as blurred vision, the price of his Tsukuyomi. Sasuke mocks him and presses with a great fireball, then chases him skyward wielding Chidori, punching a hole through the ceiling.

The two trade fire on the rooftop until Itachi calls up Amaterasu from his right eye, unquenchable black flames that swallow Sasuke's orange fire and begin to consume him. Sasuke sheds his own skin to slip free, an ability gained from absorbing Orochimaru, and channels his last chakra into a dragon-shaped blast that erupts through the roof and misses Itachi. Judging his brother spent, Itachi declares the match over, only for Sasuke to smirk as storm clouds gather and warn that his next technique, like the flames, cannot be dodged.
