Summary

Gathering medicinal herbs in the woods, Haku comes upon Naruto asleep after a hard night of training and wakes him. Mistaking Haku for a girl, Naruto boasts about growing stronger and tries to impress the newcomer, and Haku offers a lesson in return: a person becomes truly strong only when they have someone precious to defend. Naruto takes the words to heart, even after Haku reveals the truth about being a boy.

After Naruto snaps at him and leaves the table, Kakashi gently explains that Naruto, an orphan, has endured more pain than the boy realises.
