An accidental SOS from Guy sends Kakashi racing to a ship, where Guy mistakes his old rival for an impostor and attacks. The reunion becomes a walk through their long history of contests before the misunderstanding is cleared up.
In Konohagakure, Kakashi is discussing the looming war with Tsunade when an emergency messenger tortoise from Guy reaches him bearing a distress call. He sets out at once to learn what has gone wrong. Aboard the vessel, Guy looks back over the origins of his rivalry with Kakashi and the many duels they have fought since. That night, the jōnin gather and Yamato relays a rumour of a shinobi able to mimic not only a person's looks but their chakra as well.
When Kakashi arrives and calls out for Guy, Guy has no memory of sending any SOS and decides the figure before him must be one of the impostors Yamato described.
Convinced he faces a fake, Guy launches an assault on Kakashi, then turns on Aoba and Yamato when they back Kakashi up. Kakashi ends the confusion by recalling a private detail from their youth, proof no impostor could know. With his identity confirmed and the truth revealed that the tortoise had triggered the SOS by accident, Kakashi heads back to Konoha.
