A newly declared family holiday sends Naruto on a village-wide hunt with his daughter Himawari for a sold-out Kurama plush, a lighthearted day that quietly nudges him to keep a distant subordinate closer to his own son.
Naruto and Shikamaru take in the announcement of the new Parent and Child Day holiday and reflect on how much shinobi life has shifted since their youth. Shikamaru means to clear Naruto's schedule so he can spend the day with his kids, though a line of shopkeepers keeps arriving with forms for his signature. As the holiday nears, Boruto and Himawari wonder whether their father will actually show, and Hinata reassures them before heading off to see Hiashi. Naruto turns up only in the morning; Boruto leaves to train, and Naruto finds Himawari asleep on the floor. When he wakes her, she asks to go buy a Kurama plush together, and though he wants a nap, the limited holiday sale wins out and he chooses her.
At the store they meet Kiba, who is after the same toy for his girlfriend Tamaki, but the plush sells out and Naruto accidentally grabs a Shukaku doll. Kiba joins the search across the village: Ino at the flower shop hands Himawari sunflowers as thanks, Boruto spots Shino clutching a Kurama toy he claims is for studying his students, and Tenten guilt-trips Naruto into buying a parent-and-child kunai set plus a shuriken necklace. Kiba says he snagged the last toy from a kiosk, but the package turns out to be a hamburger. Naruto chases down the man who took it and recognises him as someone he had posted to the border. The man's son is with him and asks forgiveness; Himawari hands the boy the toy. Moved, Naruto reassigns the father to a village gate so he can stay near his child, and Himawari ends the day grateful for the time and the gifts.
