Sai and Shin

Confronted with his former puppet shell, Sasori reflects that the immortal body he long craved has made it needless. As the two divisions clash, Shin is set against Kankurō's Sasori puppet, and Omoi enters after Hoheto Hyūga warns that Shin's belly is packed with explosive clay best countered by Lightning Release. Omoi's strike goes wide and Deidara detonates Shin, but the blast is smothered inside Kankurō's Sanshōuo puppet. Incensed at hearing his brother called a bomb, Sai draws a replica of the Benevolent Kings that swat Deidara and Sasori down into Kankurō's waiting puppets.

When Deidara tries to blow himself apart, Omoi runs his lightning-charged blade into the mouth on the man's chest just before wire from the Sasori puppet locks him down. Shin glimpses the drawing of himself and Sai clasping hands, and his soul is freed. Kankurō's words reach Sasori in spite of Deidara's warning to ignore them, and Sasori hands over his Mother and Father puppets, asking that they be passed down through the generations, which Kankurō accepts. As both reincarnated bodies collapse into ash over the corpses beneath, the Surprise Attack Division understands that the technique demands living sacrifices.

Elsewhere, Kabuto sends Tobi off to the front so he can concentrate on the Impure World Reincarnation, and Tobi, realising Kabuto means to have him and the Allied Shinobi Forces grind each other down, vows that he is the true manipulator. The episode adapts chapters 518 and 519 of the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation. A dub note points out that Shin uses Sai's later codename in his fight and flashbacks, a name he could not have known before his death. It aired in Japan on 17 May 2012 and in English on 11 October 2014.
