The Steam Ninja Scrolls: The Resurrection Hot Springs!

Mirai doubts Tatsumi's story of a spring where the dead can be seen, but Tatsumi admits she came all this way for her mother despite her own doubts, then asks whether Mirai would not want to meet Asuma. After wrestling with her sense of duty, Mirai agrees to come along, mostly to keep Tatsumi safe, though they must set out at night, when the dead can supposedly be reached. Crossing the quiet, emptied village, they pause to refill their water at a spring, where Mirai catches a metallic tang. Tatsumi confides she wants to apologize to her mother for a fight the day before she died, while Mirai means to finally put her lingering question about the "king" to her father.

Mirai's shinobi skill impresses Tatsumi as she helps her over rough ground. A watcher trails them, and at a fork in the road that same girl steps forward, offering to guide them to the spring and claiming she once reunited there with her dead brother.

The guide leads them to a cave tucked behind a waterfall, where Mirai smells sulphur as they near the water. Inside wait several women, some who have lingered for a month, and they celebrate reaching twenty, the count a ceremony demands. The attendants usher the group to a chamber to meet Ryūki. When Mirai questions how he can show them the dead, other believers scold her. He describes a ninja who once revived the war dead with a jutsu, which Mirai recognizes as Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation, but Ryūki claims his own method spares the dead the dishonor and the living sacrifice that technique required.

He calls a woman to the spring, has her speak her name and her loved one's, and the others hear a voice answer through the steam. Tatsumi goes next and recognizes her mother's voice within the steam. As Mirai offers up her own father's name, Ryūki reacts to her family line and sends her toward the vapor. A Jashin emblem marks his ring, and in the drifting steam Mirai glimpses a shape resembling Asuma.

The episode builds the Steam Ninja Scrolls arc toward its climax and shares its title with a Konoha Shinden manga chapter. It premiered in Japan on June 9, 2019, and in English on May 25, 2021, carrying Golden Time as its opening and Ride or Die as its ending.
