Summary

Three years on from Orochimaru's betrayal of the village, Danzō, whose failing right eye is dimming, dispatches Kinoe and a second Root agent to take Kakashi's Sharingan as a replacement. Yūgao finds Kakashi at the Konoha Cemetery to relay that the Third Hokage wants him, and there Kakashi is briefed on a discovered Orochimaru lair he is to investigate. Kinoe crosses his path at the site, and the two agree to cooperate before Kinoe abruptly turns on him to carry out his real orders. Their duel is savage, with Kakashi insisting that allies must never kill one another, while Kinoe throws back the rumor that Kakashi once slew his own friend.
