Players explore a cel shaded, free roaming version of the Hidden Leaf Village on foot and via rooftop platforming while completing story missions, then step into a standalone one on one fighting mode called the Forest of Death, which supports online multiplayer bouts separate from the adventure sections.

The story follows the Naruto anime from its opening through the Invasion of Konoha arc, roughly its first 80 episodes in the English dub. Eleven characters, including Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi, are playable from the start, with five more added as downloadable content: Shikamaru, Choji, Jiraiya, the Third Hokage, and Temari.

Development & Release

Ubisoft Montreal developed the game and Ubisoft published it, making it the first Naruto title built by a non Japanese studio. It released in North America on October 30, 2007, in Australia on November 1, 2007, and in Europe on November 2, 2007. Metacritic lists a favorable 78 out of 100, individual scores ranged from 6.67 to 8.5 out of 10, and it earned a nomination for Best Game Based on a TV Show or Film at the 2007 Spike Video Game Awards. A sequel, Naruto: The Broken Bond, followed in 2008.
