Team Shibire

Drawn from Konohagakure, this genin unit unites Minoji, Shibire, and Tanzo. The three enter the Chunin Exams together.

The manga and anime each hand the team a different downfall. In the manga, they push into the exam's second stage, but Minoji and Shibire open their scroll too early while Tanzo is away, and summoned Leaf shinobi promptly knock them out. The anime reworks their run into the joint exams shared with Sunagakure. A hint from Neji Hyuga lets them crack the first written problem, and they clear the opening round by turning in a blank sheet, the intended answer about never deserting a comrade. Later, with most teams already holding their scrolls, they try to fake one by reading the scroll they carry, unaware of a trap laced within it that paralyses them and leaves them unconscious. They never reach the Suna checkpoint among the earliest thirty squads, so Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi disqualify them and order them back to Konoha.

Shibire gives the squad its name and, in the manga, shares in the reckless move that ends its run. Minoji joins in opening the scroll prematurely, while Tanzo rounds out the group, absent at the very moment his teammates falter.
