A nighttime ambush outside Konoha turns lethal when Asuma discovers that his Akatsuki quarry cannot be finished off by ordinary means. The realization forces the Leaf team to rethink its plan as Hidan carves a ritual mark in his own blood and readies a transformation that rewrites the rules of the fight.
Pressed by Konoha's ambush team, Hidan happily confirms to Izumo and Kotetsu that death has no hold on him. That admission upends Asuma's plan, which had been to slay Hidan and take his partner alive; with the situation flipped, Asuma resolves to swap which enemy he pursues. Because Shikamaru's shadow still pins Hidan, Asuma sets off toward Kakuzu, only to find him already striking at Shikamaru in a bid to break the grip holding his teammate.
The Leaf shinobi regroup once Hidan wriggles free, and he immediately smears a circular emblem onto the ground using his own blood. Asuma steps forward to trade blows while Shikamaru watches from cover and Kakuzu, unwilling to join in, sits the clash out. A swing of the Triple-Bladed Scythe cuts Asuma, and after tasting the blood clinging to the blade, Hidan shifts his body into a dark new form.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
The installment appeared in a 2006 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump that marked the thirtieth anniversary of Kochikame. As part of the tie-in, the character Kankichi Ryotsu was tucked into a panel near where Kakuzu attacks Shikamaru, though he was later erased for the collected volume. One page also drew Hidan's forehead protector bearing a Konohagakure crest by mistake.
In God's Judgment!!, Hidan reveals to Izumo and Kotetsu that he cannot be killed, forcing Asuma to change his plan and go after Kakuzu instead. Hidan then marks a ritual blood emblem on the ground and later shifts into a dark new form after tasting Asuma's blood on his scythe.
Hidan is immortal, and in God's Judgment!! he happily confirms to the Konoha ambush team that death has no hold on him, which upends Asuma's original plan to kill him and capture Kakuzu alive.
After escaping Shikamaru's Shadow Imitation Technique, Hidan smears a circular ritual emblem onto the ground using his own blood, setting up the transformation he undergoes later in the fight.
Asuma sets out to attack Kakuzu after learning Hidan cannot be killed, but finds Kakuzu already striking at Shikamaru, so Asuma instead trades blows directly with Hidan.
God's Judgment!! is chapter 323 of the Naruto manga, part of the Akatsuki Suppression Mission arc, and is collected in volume 36.
