Summary

Rock Lee owes so much to Might Guy, the mentor who handed him both the hope of becoming a ninja and the guidance to chase that goal. Yet Guy's usual creed of relentless effort carries no weight against the surgery meant to repair his broken body, since whether he lives comes down to chance rather than discipline or willpower. Knowing that dying on the table would end his ninja career for good, Lee cannot decide which path to take.

Guy urges his student to accept the operation, arguing that abandoning his dream would leave him far more miserable than any risk. Simply committing to fight for the life he wants, Guy insists, is enough to tip the scales and pull him through. When Lee still hesitates, Guy makes it personal, telling him that if Lee were to perish chasing his ambition, then Guy would perish too, having failed the dream of guiding his pupil toward his own. That resolve settles it, and Lee agrees to go ahead.
