Set on reviving his old master, Sasuke overrides Suigetsu's frantic protests and draws Orochimaru back out from within Anko's cursed seal. The restored serpent has no stake in the war, only lingering designs on Sasuke's body and a place he wants to show him.
Suigetsu argues himself hoarse against bringing Orochimaru back, throwing every reason he can at Sasuke, but Sasuke has already made up his mind. Following his orders, Jūgo uses his Sage Transformation to pull a sample of Kabuto's DNA, to Suigetsu's revulsion, and presses it onto the Cursed Seal of Heaven on Anko. Sasuke then works the Evil Releasing Method, drawing Orochimaru out from the traces of life force still lodged inside her.
As Orochimaru rises, Suigetsu ducks behind Kabuto and offers his old captor a nervous greeting. Orochimaru reveals he watched everything unfold from within Anko, and stuns the group by saying the ongoing war holds no interest for him. His eye is still on Sasuke's body, though he cannot claim it in his current form. Sasuke produces the scroll he was handed and says he wants the full story straight from the source, prompting Orochimaru to ask whether his revenge has faltered; Sasuke says it has not.

Orochimaru approaches the paralyzed Kabuto, sending Suigetsu scrambling across the cave, and siphons off his chakra until Kabuto reverts to how he looked before taking on Orochimaru's DNA. Remarking that Sasuke has changed since they last met, Orochimaru bids him follow to a place he knows well.

Suigetsu argues against reviving Orochimaru and throws every objection he can think of at Sasuke, but Sasuke has already made up his mind and goes through with the ritual anyway.
