That Person's Name is…!!

A pair of cloaked figures survey a battered Konoha as the village prepares to bury the Third Hokage, two days on from the failed invasion. At the funeral, Iruka steadies the late leader's grandson, Konohamaru, and recalls his own bond with the Third, remembering how the old man once told a grieving Iruka that those who fall in the village's service endure for as long as Konoha itself stands.

Kakashi and Yūgao pause at the Memorial Stone to honour other fallen comrades before joining the rites. Jiraiya watches from a distance and reflects on his years learning under the Third, moved to tears by the memory of how shameless both teacher and student had been. When Naruto asks why people give their lives to shield others, Iruka answers that it is simply human nature, and Naruto accepts it before leaving with the rest of Team 7. Iruka muses that another leader every bit as great will surely rise to fill the empty seat.

The cover art of Team 7 dashing through a sunset was reused as the ending sequence for the game Naruto: Ultimate Ninja. The chapter belongs to volume 16 in the Search for Tsunade arc and carries the Viz title "Eulogy…!!" It first ran in the 43rd issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump for 2002.
