Chavez

Chavez is an orange, spotted lizard that walks on two legs and outsizes a typical human.

His build features a lengthy neck and tail paired with arms that look short next to his much sturdier legs.

Taming Chavez requires an unusual condition: he will only accept a rider once he loses a staring contest by bursting into laughter. He found Acier's smug expression hilarious enough to crack.

After he is won over, he becomes deeply devoted to whoever rides him.

Chavez can dash across the surface of water, and he can even sprint over the gastric acid filling Bonbori's first stomach. The acid in the second stomach, however, proves too corrosive for him to endure.

Luffy first came across Chavez on an island within Bonbori's first stomach, where the lizard explained the laughter requirement to Acier. After her smug face won him over and Luffy named him, Chavez ferried the pair onward. When the second stomach's acid began eating at his feet, Acier bandaged his legs so he could press on, carrying Luffy, Acier, and Zoro toward Alchemi in the third stomach. Zoro later rode him back to the group, after which everyone fled aboard the Thousand Sunny. Chavez ultimately disembarked with Acier, Myskina Olga, and a fellow water lizard named Elizabeth to start a new life together.
