Domo-kun and Nnke-kun

The two could not look less alike. Domo-kun stands upright in a full orange bodysuit that leaves only his hands bare, and his head tapers into a pear shape marked by dark shading on each cheek. A braid trails from his scalp, finished off with a small ribbon. Nnke-kun, by contrast, is built around a domed cap resembling a mushroom, beneath which several limbs dangle like tentacles. A pair of eyes sit above a grinning mouth that is missing a few teeth.

Both creatures arrive on Earth with conquest in mind, casting them as would-be invaders rather than harmless visitors. Their schemes, however, never amount to much, and their recurring run-ins with other oddballs tend to leave them humbled rather than victorious.

Oda first sketched the duo for his short tale Future Present from God, where they count as his very first joke creations. Domo-kun later turned up as a hidden face within the ranks of the Buggy Pirates, and Oda revisited both designs when answering a reader question in an SBS column. Nnke-kun resurfaced beside Pandaman on the inside artwork of a later volume. Across the inside covers of several consecutive volumes, the aliens are shown ambushing Pandaman, with Domo-kun wielding a net while Nnke-kun drops in aboard a flying saucer. Their attempt to bag him collapses when Pandaman thrashes the pair and scolds them, and the two bolt the moment a strange bear-shaped creature shows up.
