Appearance

Standing ten feet tall, Doflamingo is a lean yet muscled man with a sculpted torso, a fair complexion that the anime renders as tan, and blond hair cropped so short it resembles a pixie cut. His wardrobe leans flamboyant and bright in keeping with his flamingo motif, the standout piece being a large feather coat in light pink. Slim, curved white sunglasses, their lenses orange in print and red on screen, shield his eyes, and his gait is a strange waddle on bowed legs that again plays on the bird theme. He is frequently drawn grinning with his long tongue lolling out.

His manga colors put a red-striped white shirt with a green belt and white-striped orange trousers under pointed black dress shoes, while the early anime gave him darker tones before switching to match the manga at Sabaody. Following the timeskip his look simplifies to a plain open shirt whose cufflinks are tiny Jolly Rogers, a belt of orange threaded with green rope, and pink striped trousers, and he now drapes the feather coat over his shoulders and adds gold hoop earrings. Once defeated, he is shown in a horizontally striped prisoner uniform.

Flashbacks chart his earlier years. As a Celestial Dragon child he wore spiral, dark-brown sunglasses and noble garb, his appearance growing ragged after the family fled Mary Geoise. By age ten he had swapped his tattered clothes for a clean black shirt and white shorts and taken on a mob-boss air, eventually adopting his trademark spiral red lenses. At seventeen his hair ran longer with forehead goggles and the feathered mantle, and through his twenties his outfits ranged from a black dress shirt to a double-breasted suit in deep blood red before he settled into his current cropped hair and Seastone shackles in captivity.

History

As the firstborn of the deceased Donquixote Homing and elder sibling to Rosinante, Doflamingo took both their lives after coming to feel they had betrayed him. Eight years before the series opens he seized the crown of Dressrosa from Riku Doldo III and ruled the nation as a tyrant. He surfaced early in the story during the Skypiea Saga's epilogue as Bellamy's superior, then stood among the Warlords who backed the Marines at the Summit War of Marineford. As the central villain of the Dressrosa Saga, he set its events in motion until Luffy beat him near the close of the Dressrosa Arc, stripping him of both his Warlord status and his throne.

Abilities

Before his fall, Doflamingo carried a frozen bounty of 340,000,000 Berries and operated as the underworld's most influential broker under the alias "Joker." Admiral Fujitora arrested him together with the bulk of his crew, after which he was confined to Level 6 of Impel Down. Vegapunk would later produce a clone of him as one of the Seraphim meant to take the Warlords' place. As a descendant of the Donquixote Family, he ranks among the former World Nobles, and his villainy spans both the Dressrosa Saga and the Summit War Saga.
