Holding the rank of Marine Vice Admiral, Draw stands as the leading villain of the first volume of the One Piece novel A. He rose from Lieutenant Commander while concealing a merciless hatred of pirates, and between his arm-mounted flamethrowers and his Armament Haki he poses a real danger even to Portgas D. Ace.
Draw cuts a large and sturdy figure, rising about a head over Portgas D. Ace. Tube-shaped fittings on his arms house his flamethrowers, and once his coat falls over them his limbs take on a broad, bulky shape. The coat is the ordinary one worn by Marine officers.
Draw usually wears a cheerful front, but underneath it festers a savage contempt for pirates that pushes him to grab every opening to kill them. Reckless carnage that puts bystanders at risk troubles him not at all, since he simply faults the pirates for making him resort to such measures. His scorn carries over to the Warlord arrangement, a system he refuses to endorse.
Back when his rank was Lieutenant Commander, Draw torched a village amid a fight with pirates, leveling it and killing the parents of a girl named Isuka. He hauled Isuka out of the flames, and she grew up believing pirates had set the blaze, idolizing him and signing on with the Marines to shield others from harm. Years afterward, now a Vice Admiral, he met Isuka again, by then an Ensign, to deliver the invitation the Five Elders had drafted, an offer that would let Portgas D. Ace enter the ranks of the Warlords. The two made for the Sabaody Archipelago, where Ace declined. Draw voiced agreement with that refusal, holding the same dim view of the system, then suddenly moved to kill Ace and bared the flamethrowers in his arms to learn which flame-user would prevail.
With the surrounding slums set alight, Masked Deuce, who sailed with Ace, grabbed Draw and tore off his fuel tank while Ace dashed to rescue the people in danger. During the brawl that followed, Draw relied on Armament Haki, which let him land hits and seize the pirate even through his Logia body, and he carved up the ground with a lone punch. Ace's fire then set off the loosened fuel tank, and the explosion injured them both. Awakening Armament Haki of his own, Ace overpowered him, and once the two struck each other across the face, Draw went down for good. Learning later that he had been the one to burn her village, Isuka collapses in tears, while Draw spares barely a thought for what his rescue had ever meant to her.
Draw is a Marine Vice Admiral who serves as the primary villain of the first volume of the One Piece novel A, rising from Lieutenant Commander while hiding a savage hatred of pirates.
Draw fights with a pair of flamethrowers built into tube-shaped fittings on his arms, and he also wields Armament Haki that lets him strike even Logia users.
Draw attacked Portgas D. Ace after delivering the Five Elders' invitation for Ace to join the Warlords, wanting to see which of them, as flame users, would prevail in a fight.
Draw is revealed to be the very Marine who years earlier burned down Isuka's village and killed her parents, even though Isuka grew up believing pirates were responsible and idolized Draw as her rescuer.
Ace awakened his own Armament Haki during their clash, and after the two traded a final blow to the face, Draw went down for good.
