Ganzui was a smuggler who fell in with the Rocks Pirates after a Davy Back Fight loss to Xebec. A wielder of the Bomu Bomu no Mi, he joined the God Valley Incident, and after his death Gecko Moria reanimated his corpse as General Zombie #889 on Thriller Bark.
In life Ganzui was enormous and broad-bodied, with massive hands and forearms set against a head that looked small by comparison. His features included a very long beard together with a lengthy ponytail, dark glasses, and a broad mouth, all reddish-brown in color, though the anime rendered them black. He wore bulky golden armor finished with a cape; forty-two years earlier he had set aside the glasses for a golden helmet. As a zombie his lower half became an elephant's body, making him a centaur swathed in bandages, his armor branded with the number 889; he was also missing his left eye along with two front teeth.
Outgoing in life, Ganzui feasted noisily beside his crewmates, and true to his smuggling trade he knew the Underworld's history well. The chance for a great clash at God Valley left him visibly thrilled, and as his male shipmates all did, he fell for Shakky the instant he saw her. Above everything he craved riches, and the mountain of treasure at God Valley drove him to betray those around him, striking at the Roger Pirates and even at his fellow crewmen John and Shiki. Once revived as a zombie, he turned stoic and obedient to orders.
Brought aboard the Rocks Pirates after being beaten in a Davy Back Fight by Rocks D. Xebec, Ganzui sailed with them to Elbaph and later helped conquer Hachinosu, whose island wealth he knew came from a gold deposit. The crew raided the International Philanthropy Federation and were freed only when Newgate's quake nearly sank the temple island. At God Valley the Rocks rushed to rescue Shakky, but Rayleigh reached her first; Ganzui then turned to the treasure, fought Scopper Gaban, and betrayed both John and Shiki to seize a larger share, before Shiki flipped the situation and made off with a chest. He died at some later time, and Moria recovered his body to raise him as Zombie #889. During the Straw Hats' raid on Thriller Bark, Franky beat him, he later tumbled from a bridge that Franky destroyed, then attended Absalom's wedding and failed to halt Oars; in the end Moria withdrew the shadow animating him, laying his body to rest again.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
