Appearance

Jean Bart is a huge man whose fierce face resembles that of a guard animal, his frame two or three times the bulk of Jinbe and large enough to scoop the fish-man up with ease. Flame-shaped tattoos sit on his forehead, a scar runs above his right eye, and long sideburns frame his face below a mane that falls down his back, with his teeth often bared. While enslaved he was clothed in rags and made to move on all fours; after his liberation he stood upright again and changed into a black tank top. He is marked, like every former World Noble slave, with a Soaring Dragon's Hoof brand somewhere on his body. Past the timeskip he wears the crew's Jolly Roger boiler suit and has grown a full beard.

Personality

Little of his character has been spelled out, but he comes across as a man of honor who repays his debts, which is why he joined Law after being freed. He also shows a calmer, more patient side on Amazon Lily, a contrast to the ferocity he displayed at the Archipelago and on the Marineford battlefield.

History

Before his enslavement Jean Bart was a well-known captain, captured and sold off to the Celestial Dragons. As Rosward's slave he was paraded on all fours through Sabaody and chained outside the Human Auctioning House. When Law removed his exploding collar amid the chaos there, he pledged himself to the Heart Pirates and smashed a bridge in two to slow the pursuing Marines. He stood with the crew at Marineford, catching the wounded Luffy and Jinbe when Buggy dropped them, and afterward followed Law through the New World. During the timeskip he helped the Mink Tribe defend Zou against Jack's forces. Later he fought through Wano alongside the crew and the Scabbards. When the Blackbeard Pirates ambushed the Heart Pirates near Winner Island, his speed and durability let him block a shot from Van Augur unharmed to shield Law, though the crew was ultimately beaten and their ship sunk with most of them aboard.
