Jingoro is a reclusive but gifted shipwright who built the vessel for the Set Sail Pirates in the non-canon game Set Sail Pirate Crew! An old friend of Genzo, he tucks himself away in remote places yet cannot resist a worthy set of blueprints, having offered to construct the Going Merry's design for nothing.
Short and fair-skinned, Jingoro has a broad nose set between narrow eyes beneath thick grey eyebrows, with a scar across his left cheek and a pair of nails poking from his nostrils. His head is shaved clean save for a small grey patch perched at his front hairline. He dresses in a grey shirt under a blue jacket that bears the kanji 大 on one shoulder, topped with a white headband, and wears beige trousers.
A solitary man by nature, Jingoro chooses to settle in places that are hard to reach, a habit that earns him the label of eccentric from Genzo. Shipbuilding stirs deep passion in him; the sight of Merry's plans left him so eager to bring them to life that he volunteered to do the work without charge. He and Genzo were close in their younger years, and though they meet far less often now, the friendship endures. His talent had grown renowned without Genzo even realizing it, and Merry judged him the only craftsman able to realize the Flying Merry design.
Working away in his home, Jingoro was approached by Sanji together with the Set Sail Pirates, who wanted him to build their ship. The blueprints they showed him struck him as a stroke of genius, so he agreed on the spot, though such a fine craft demanded materials to match. He dispatched the group to gather Dragon Wood, Resistant Tar, and a further component, guiding them by the legends tied to each. While they were away he ordered Strong Canvas and began the construction himself, and when they returned with the canvas he finished the ship and handed it over as he had promised, wishing them well on their way.
