Appearance

Slim and of average height, Hiyori takes after her mother Toki, with turquoise hair falling to her waist, downward-slanting blue eyes, and fuchsia coloring on her full lips. Throughout Wano she is held to be the most beautiful of women, her appearance so striking that those who look upon her are said to faint, go blind, or suffer nosebleeds.

As Komurasaki she stood atop towering geta, her hair laden with pins and blossoms, swathed in a sparkling red furisode bearing a peacock, her fingernails painted to match. A kitsune mask hid her face during shamisen performances so her tears stayed private. Once she left the Flower Capital she wore her hair mostly loose with a single pink rose ornament at each side, exchanged her opulent dress for a pink kimono and green obi, and removed the red from her nails.

Personality

Pride runs deep in Hiyori, who will not bow or betray vulnerability, holding that a samurai's daughter must neither kneel nor weep, a resolve she keeps even when standing up to Orochi. Underneath that hardness she is warm and profoundly kind, cherishing her attendant Toko and weeping over the misery of Wano's downtrodden people. In her Komurasaki role she played a cold and money-hungry manipulator, but her marks were corrupt men, and every sum she swindled passed through Denjiro to reach the poor.

A real determination to kill Orochi burns within her, and she is not squeamish about doing the deed herself. When pursued and desperate she will set pride aside to plead for aid, as she did with Zoro, repaying his rescue with deep thanks. A childhood fondness for the shamisen and a playful, sometimes childish side complete her, and even as an adult she still drop-kicks Momonosuke to tease him.

History

Hiyori came into the world aboard the Whitebeard Pirates' Moby Dick and later sailed with Roger's crew, staying behind in Wano with her mother and brother after Toki took ill. When Orochi and Kaidou executed Oden, Toki used the Toki Toki no Mi to send Momonosuke two decades ahead in time, remaining with Hiyori as Oden Castle burned. Kawamatsu carried the girl to safety and cared for her in spite of his own starvation, until she slipped away rather than watch him waste. Discovered on the streets, she was sheltered by Denjiro in his Kyoshiro persona, who shaped her into the geisha Komurasaki to keep her concealed.

Climbing to the highest oiran rank, she fleeced the corrupt trio of Bingo, Bongo, and Bungo and gained Orochi's affection. After the shogun threatened Toko at a banquet, Hiyori slapped him, and Denjiro staged her death to protect her. Back at Toko's side, she was hunted by the assassin Kamazo before Zoro saved her, after which she treated his wound, disclosed who she truly was, and heard that her brother still lived. Wishing to return Wano's national treasure Shusui to its homeland, she offered Zoro her late father's legendary blade as the replacement he would carry instead. Concealed within Orochi's tribute on Onigashima, she fixed a Seastone nail to him during the raid, revealed her face, and watched him burn as Denjiro delivered the killing blow. With Kaidou defeated, she announced her survival and real identity to all of Wano, and she now resides in the Flower Capital with the new Shogun Momonosuke while serving as Toko's guardian.
