Appearance

Measured against other Sea Kings this one runs on the smaller end, yet it still dwarfs a person enough to gulp down a full-grown adult in a single swallow. Its body recalls a huge brown eel, finished with blue fins and a pair of red eyes. Those eyes shift dramatically when fury takes hold, turning bloodshot as the pupils narrow into a cat-like slit. Official creature charts file it as a Type C threat, a so-called Big Savage, ranking it as fiercer than the average Sea King.

Personality

Ferocity defines the beast. It hunts aggressively and has gone after human prey more than once, earning its place among the most savage creatures in the classification tables. For all its menace, its willpower proves fragile, since Shanks' Conqueror's Haki was enough to cow it into retreat.

History

As a Sea King it is a brutal, lightning-quick predator whose power in the water once forced even a pirate of Shanks' caliber to give up an arm rather than let it reach a young Luffy. The encounter began when the bandit Higuma flung a seven-year-old Luffy into the sea; drawn by the commotion, the creature devoured Higuma and lunged for the boy, but Shanks intercepted it, losing his left arm to its jaws before his sheer force of will scared it off. A decade later, as Luffy set out to begin his pirate life, the same monster tried once more and was flattened in a single blow by a Gomu Gomu no Pistol. The anime first skipped this rematch, then later staged it in full from Episode 504 onward.
