He takes genuine satisfaction in excavation work, treating the job as worthwhile and fulfilling. His wits, however, are dull; he failed to recognize that Buggy, Mohji, and Cabaji were not the new diggers he assumed them to be.
History
The Master turned up during the Jaya Arc, while the Buggy Pirates combed an unnamed Paradise island in search of Captain John's buried fortune. Taking the pirates for recruits, he had them join his digging team. Buggy played along with the labor for a short while before catching on to the mistake, at which point he turned on the diggers in a rage.
