Gold rings of solid metal sat on every one of Oliva's fingers, and he favored a loud striped suit cut to show off his bulging muscles. A gorilla-mask covered his face; with it removed, his actual features came across as more simian than human.

Oliva was a man without scruples. Despite a standing ban from Whitebeard, he kept his hand in the slave trade, which says plainly enough what kind of person he was.
History
As the boss of Port Chibaralta Island, Oliva held sway over its inhabitants and enjoyed Whitebeard's backing, the island being part of that captain's territory. His authority lasted only until Portgas D. Ace caught him trafficking in slaves, an activity Whitebeard had expressly prohibited. Confronted, Oliva was made to give himself up and lost his post.
