Appearance

Sam keeps a black mustache whose ends are combed straight downward, and although the crown of his head is bald, dark hair still grows along the sides. His outfit is formal: a black suit worn over a white dress shirt, finished with a tie that the databook lists as purple, though the anime colors it white instead. Heavy drinking leaves his face flushed red much of the time, and he occasionally turns up clutching a parcel.

Personality

The rebellious streak running through his daughters keeps Sam under constant strain, and alcohol is his chosen escape. Once the drink takes hold his mood flips entirely: the worn-down father becomes a cheerful party guest who will latch onto any gathering or crowd that crosses his path, regardless of where he is.

History

His wife abandoned the family when his oldest girl was eight, leaving him to bring up the children by himself. The second daughter proved an endless source of headaches over the years. After Arlong's defeat, Sam joined the villagers' jubilation, having wandered home drunk from a wedding and simply followed the noise. He resurfaced amid the chaos at Nanohana during the Arabasta troubles, reeling about while everyone else fled, his presence later explained by another daughter's wedding that had driven him to overdrink. Non-canon appearances place him judging a Loguetown cooking contest at Sapi's invitation, partying at Whisky Peak, drifting around before the Dead End Race, and later listening to Vegapunk's broadcast back home during the Egghead era.
