The Straw Hats Run! Save the Captive Tonoyasu

While Komurasaki's coffin is carried through the streets toward cremation and mourners line the route, Orochi travels to the execution grounds to witness Tonoyasu's end. The old man is bound to a cross and hoisted high above the crowd, where he drifts into memories of his days beside Oden. The execution is transmitted live to Bakura Town, Ebisu Town, and Udon, and viewers across the country react with shock as the prisoner's true name surfaces.

Kin'emon, riding through Bakura Town in search of Ashura, freezes when he spots the broadcast and realizes Yasuie still breathes, and Hyogoro recognizes him from Udon as well. A flashback paints Yasuie as the stern, humorless lord of Hakumai who sheltered Oden after Sukiyaki cast his son out of the castle. Back in the present, Ebisu Town's citizens beg for mercy while Yasuie only laughs, and the people, joined by Usopp, Nami, and Robin, storm the Flower Capital to break through its guards.

Tonoyasu is revealed to be Shimotsuki Yasuie, former daimyo of Hakumai. The location debut of Hakumai appears alongside the character debut of Hoisassa. Yasuie confesses that he was never the real Ushimitsu Kozo and intends to apologize for two things before addressing Orochi. The first shot strikes him as his charges are read aloud. In his closing statement he honors the Kozuki Family for the country's former beauty, brands Orochi as vermin who ruined it, and keeps laughing as the executioner takes aim.

The episode layers in material absent from the page, such as Hyogoro explaining Yasuie's history to Luffy, Daikoku firing on the prisoner, and Usopp and Robin aiding the Ebisu Town crowd when guards draw their swords. Kin'emon and Inuarashi catch the broadcast before locating Ashura, a reordering from the source material. During the Oden flashback the late lord is drawn less obscured, and Yasuie kicks rather than strikes him. The chapter sits within the Wano Country Arc.
