Daisenso

Item

Daisenso, the Battle Spear, is Don Krieg's heaviest close-range weapon. He forms it by clamping his two shoulder-plates together, which then extend a wooden shaft and a metal point. Its head detonates on contact, making it the deadliest piece of his hidden arsenal.

Overview

This polearm belongs to Krieg, leader of the Krieg Pirates, and serves as the trump card of his weapon-laden armor. Rather than being carried as a separate item, the spear materializes when he interlocks the two golden shoulder-plates of his suit and triggers the machinery sealed inside them. A shaft and blade then push out from the gap between the plates, giving him a melee weapon to fall back on once his other tricks fail.

Function

The finished weapon pairs a broad cutting head with a plain wooden pole, and the whole assembly is reported to tip the scales at a full ton. Beyond the obvious advantage of length, the spearpoint bursts the instant it strikes anything solid, and the harder the blow, the larger the resulting blast, so even a near miss can do real harm. Because the actual detonation hardware sits inside the shoulder-plates rather than the tip, the spear keeps producing explosions even after the head is wrecked. Monkey D. Luffy snapped off the blade during their clash, leaving little more than an exploding stick that still carried roughly half its original punch.

Notable Users

Krieg alone wields the Daisenso, bringing it out late in his fight against Luffy aboard the Baratie after the pirate had shrugged off most of his other devices. Each plate is stamped with the Krieg Pirates' jolly roger and trimmed with fur along the edges. Despite its fearsome design, the weapon could not turn the tide once Luffy broke its point.
