Overview

Kiribachi is an enormous saw-like sword belonging to Arlong, classed as a famous blade and styled after a zanbato. The weapon is black, lined along one edge with six shark-tooth blades that together evoke the saw of a sawfish, and fitted with a katana-style grip that lacks any guard. During his clash with Monkey D. Luffy, the upper four of those teeth were broken.

Function

The blade's sheer bulk is enough to overpower a typical foe on its own, and its multiple teeth give it a built-in redundancy, since losing a couple does not leave the saw useless. Paired with Arlong's fish-man strength, it can deal sweeping devastation. He has been shown swinging it wildly and rolling through somersaulting slashes that turn the weapon into a buzz saw. Adaptations differ on the damage Luffy inflicted: the anime episode breaks only the second and third teeth, Episode of Nami breaks just the third, and another retelling merely bends the blade.

Notable Users

Arlong alone wields Kiribachi. Back in his days with the Sun Pirates he used it freely against Marines, even threatening to slaughter them until Fisher Tiger and Jinbe held him back. By the time he reached the East Blue the saw was no longer his everyday weapon, and he kept it mounted in the armory of Arlong Park among other katana, drawing it out only for opponents he took seriously, such as Luffy during their duel in the chart room.
