Summary

A monkey in clothing drops toward the climbers. At Luffy's signal most of them lean clear, but Kin'emon and Kanjuro, distracted, take the blow and spill off the painted dragon. Their shouts soon confirm they are unhurt and tell the others to keep going. Robin remembers spotting, just before the monkey, a bleeding figure stuck through with blades, so the crew is unsure what actually hit them.

Guided by Kanjuro's brushwork, the pirates crest the elephant's spine, where the dragon flattens back into a mere painting, saddening all but Zoro and Law. Past the gate lies a whole society of woods, rivers, and settlements, yet it sits deserted, with damage marring both forest and wall. Luffy leaps down ahead of everyone in delight.

Key Events

The shape that loomed at the end of the prior chapter is named Bariete, a monkey native to the island. Kin'emon and Kanjuro are knocked from the climbing dragon, which the crew dubs Ryunosuke after Kanjuro's drawing. Cresting the top, Luffy dashes alone into the broken town while the rest are set upon by two figures, one clad in Nami's everyday outfit. This marks the Mink Tribe's formal introduction as a race of animal-people.

Notes

The cover request shows Ace pitching and Sabo catching in a baseball game against a Lapahn. The first attacker is Carrot, a rabbit mink who floats above Zoro and parries his blade with her claws, while a second mink on a beast calls her off to confront intruders at the Whale Forest. Law confirms both are minks. The one in Nami's clothes wears her standard attire, not the outfit from Chapter 795.
