The public knows Sweet Mask as an extraordinarily handsome young man, with tousled light-blue hair falling to his shoulders and one loose strand dangling over his face. His yellow eyes shift toward a bloody red when rage overtakes him, set into a tall, lean, and toned frame. His usual outfit pairs a white jacket over a gray shirt with a green ring pendant, black trousers, and brown shoes. He has cycled through hairstyles across the story, wearing it short and parted to the right during the Seafolk invasion before returning to a longer cut and, more recently, back to short.

That beauty is a recent gift. In the past he was unsightly and hid behind the identity of Secret Mask, concealing his face inside a full-body armored suit and helmet whose buckle bore a spiral resembling a question mark. Only after his hatred of his own ugliness twisted him into a Mysterious Being did his handsome look emerge. His concealed true form, revealed during the clash with Pesky Clown, is a hulking, hunched humanoid with veined skin, sharp claws, and a warped face whose right eye dwarfs the left, though a portion of the left side still faintly echoes the human he once was. He can even reshape his biophysical makeup finely enough to hide his genetic and thermal signatures.

At his core, Sweet Mask holds that heroes exist to shield ordinary people, and that any hero who falls short of that duty must grow strong enough to fulfill it. Charismatic and beloved, he genuinely wishes happiness on every living thing and frets endlessly over new ways to delight his fans. Beneath the charm, however, runs a merciless streak. He despises anything he brands as evil, accomplices included, and believes such things must be stamped out at once. That conviction leads him to execute captured Dark Matter Thieves aliens in the name of justice, to slay an escaped caveman rather than bring him back as ordered, to nearly cut down brainwashed innocents, and even to weigh killing fellow heroes.

He is obsessed with the notion that beauty overwhelms power and that heroes themselves must be beautiful. To keep unworthy heroes from climbing, he deliberately clings to A-Class Rank 1 instead of ascending to S-Class, admiring the worthy like Genos while sneering at those he deems undeserving and openly doubting Zombieman's humanity. For all that arrogance, a real desire to fight evil and protect people still lives in him, buried under fame; recalling that the number one hero Blast once saved his life is enough to pull him back from his darkest impulses. His cruelty traces to his origins. He was once ugly and wore a mask in shame, laboring to build inner beauty through strict morals and quiet good deeds that nobody noticed, and after handsomeness brought him adoration he realized he had become the very shallow creature he despised. He admits his transformation is corroding his humanity, that faced with saving only one group he will sacrifice the smaller number without hesitation while feigning anguish, and that he dreads the day justice becomes a hollow symbol to him. Even so, streaks of selflessness endure: he transformed publicly to bring down Pesky Clown knowing it would end his hero and idol careers, and after the Hero Association dismissed him for being a monster he kept acting heroically all the same.

As the top figure of A-Class, Sweet Mask stands well above his peers and is widely regarded as fit for S-Class. He claims to outmatch Atomic Samurai and squares up confidently against S-Class heroes like Flashy Flash, yet chooses to stay put so that weaker heroes cannot rise past him. Fubuki likens him to a monster on the order of her sister Tatsumaki. His talents as an actor and singer round out his fame, but he carries one bizarre flaw: extreme ugliness paralyzes him, leaving him unable to fight well and especially vulnerable to Ugmons.

His speed is immense, letting him move and strike faster than many monsters can register. He mowed down a cluster of hostage aliens with a few swipes of one hand, slipped around Suppon's barrage to fell him in two blows, and in the webcomic fended off swarms of Black Sperm's clones while dodging Evil Natural Water's near-untrackable attacks, once landing twenty-five strikes on Garou in what looked like a single instant. His strength matches it: he can bisect monsters with a bare hand, pulverize a skull with a punch, hurl massive debris one-armed, crush the Demon-level Do-S's head in his grip, and shatter the tanks holding the Monster Cells. He also endures brutal punishment with little sign of pain, aided by a healing factor that lets him mend a pierced eye, recover from a torn-open torso, and reattach a cleanly severed arm, though he cannot regrow a lost limb outright.

Transforming into his true monster shape sends his power soaring, enough to halt the Dragon-level Pesky Clown and then finish the creature even after it powered up further under the world's attention. His shapeshifting reaches beyond mere strength, allowing him to disguise himself as entirely different people, including the fictional superhero Stag Beetle Man, and to mask his biophysical signature from advanced surveillance. Exposed at last as a Mysterious Being, he was cast out of the Hero Association and driven into hiding, yet he continues to fight for others even without a badge.
