Charanko

A white karate gi is Charanko's everyday outfit, draped over a body that looks tougher than it fights. His hair sits in a pale, messy tangle, and while his frame shows real muscle, that bulk gives no honest measure of what he can actually manage in a brawl.

Bravado defines Charanko's first impression. He mouths off at Saitama and Genos for shrugging at Bang's art, blind to how far the two outclass him, and he crows about his master's rank until Bang shuts him down. Vanity sits under the noise, since he enrolled at the dojo mostly to grow popular and to daydream about rescuing beautiful women.

That shallow streak once curdled into open cowardice. When Garou dared him to spar, Charanko flinched at a single feint and admitted he would weep and grovel to be spared, which disgusted the future hero hunter. His drive nearly evaporated afterward, but news of Garou's rampage and the exit of every other disciple oddly rekindled it.

For all his faults he is not cruel. He reveres Bang, guards the honor of the dojo and of rival schools, and found the nerve to charge Garou in revenge even after watching the Hero Hunter flatten far stronger fighters, a display of guts that earned him Saitama's defense. A crushing loss left him more humble. He also idolizes King to an absurd degree, treating him as a godlike being, and reeled in shock when King tried to confess the truth about himself.

Charanko signed on at Bang's school hoping the training would make him a hit with girls, only to land at the very bottom of the pecking order, mopping floors and cowering before senior students. An early spar with Garou went badly; he refused to trade blows, screamed at a pulled punch, and confessed he would beg for mercy against a real monster, prompting Garou to throw him out in contempt. Ready to walk away, Charanko found Bang cleaning the dojo alone and learned that everyone else had already quit, which suddenly made him the master's sole pupil and gave him a reason to stay.

His earliest on-page moment is a brief cameo reacting in shock as Hammerhead hurls a boulder into Zeniru's tower. He resurfaces during Bang's demonstration of the Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist. Incensed that Saitama and Genos wave the art off, Charanko challenges the pair and is dropped instantly by Genos, then left minding the dojo once the S-Class heroes are called away. During the hunt for Garou, Bang expels him under a false pretext to keep him clear of danger, so Charanko carries word of his master's odd behavior to Saitama's apartment and there discovers that the culprit is Garou. Ignoring every warning, he throws himself at the Hero Hunter to defend Bang's name and is savagely beaten, ending up bandaged and casted in the hospital.

Saitama visits for martial arts advice and receives Charanko's Super Fight ticket, along with a caution not to sneak into the tournament in disguise. Later the hospital itself falls under attack by a Mysterious Being. By the Neo Heroes era he is somehow still the top disciple even after Garou and Sour Face return, endures Garou's errand-boy bullying, and is left reeling when King visits and quietly admits that his celebrated exploits are hollow.
