Personality

Death Gatling thinks like a tactician. Against Garou he predicted his opponent's approach and assembled a squad mixing close-range brawlers with distant gunners to box him in. He carries a deep concern for how low-ranked heroes are seen, fretting that no amount of effort will ever lift them in the public's eyes above the S-Class, which drives him to challenge enemies stronger than himself just to prove such heroes matter. The hero catalog credits him with wiping out monsters before they can strike back, shrugging off entire swarms, and swinging a battle's momentum single-handedly.

History

During the Monster Raid, Death Gatling teams with Butterfly DX and Bone against the Hundred-Eyes Octopus, only for the three to be beaten quickly. He later gathers a larger group to face the same monster, but Flashy Flash dismisses them as second-rate and slices out the creature's eyes, forcing Death Gatling to call a retreat and pull Red Muffler from a collapsing tentacle. His defining moment comes when he tracks Garou to a small hut in a park and leads a band of A-Class and B-Class heroes to bring him in. The wounded, feverish Hero Hunter is briefly overwhelmed before turning the heroes' own weapons against them, until Death Gatling stands alone. Declaring Garou no longer human and no longer worth capturing alive, he lets loose his Death Shower, but Garou deflects the storm of bullets with Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist to shield the child in the hut. Garou grants that the group had sound tactics yet lacked the individual power an S-Class hero would have brought, and his words cut Death Gatling's pride so deeply that he draws his knife for a final hopeless stand before Garou shatters his gun. Bang and Bomb evacuate him as Elder Centipede arrives, and he resurfaces later among the heroes debating Garou's fate after Tatsumaki wrecks the Monster Association headquarters, a discussion King interrupts.

As a high-ranking A-Class hero, Death Gatling is a capable fighter who helped grind Garou down with the aid of others. His enhanced strength lets him haul and fire his massive weapon nonstop without buckling under the recoil, a feat beyond elite soldiers. His marksmanship is precise and controlled, peaking in the Death Shower, in which he cranks the gun's rate of fire and empties the whole clip almost at once. The weapon itself outpaces an ordinary Gatling with slightly larger rounds strong enough to fell trees, and he keeps a bowie knife as a backup he never got the chance to use well.
