Appearance

In his original state Sludge Jellyfish is little more than a walking heap of ooze. Following his first clash with Garou he reshapes that mass into something closer to a person, growing a pair of legs and a spread of tentacles.

Personality

Among the Monster Association's ranks, Sludge Jellyfish counts as one of the more approachable members, much like Phoenix Man. He even offers Garou a place in the organization after the hunter has already attacked him, though the slight is not forgotten; he later seizes Tareo purely to torment Garou, and while gearing up to finish Child Emperor he admits outright that grudges come naturally to him. Powerful heroes rattle him badly, and the mere sound of King's or Tatsumaki's name is enough to leave him shaken. Even so, he speaks of the Association's executives with something like reverence, insisting they will crush every hero as though a god had forged them. For all that menace, he belongs to the small set of monsters willing to talk rather than kill on sight, trading words with Tareo and Waganma instead of striking them down.

History

Sludge Jellyfish first surfaces in S-City with Phoenix Man and Rhino Wrestler, the trio cornering Mohican and Pineapple as they carry Narinki and his son Waganma to safety. He looks on during Garou's brawl with Metal Bat, then tries to snatch Zenko, a move that earns him a savage pounding from Garou. His liquid body saves him: made entirely of fluid, he has no real weak point, shrugs off ordinary blows, and simply reforms after being mashed into the dirt. Still stung in his pride, he renews the invitation to Garou, is flatly refused, and withdraws alongside Phoenix Man. He resurfaces during Garou's fight against Bug God and Royal Ripper, grabbing Tareo to distract the hunter long enough for the two monsters to land crippling hits, after which the three haul Tareo off to the Monster Association's base. There he taunts the captive boy and Waganma with talk of hopelessness, flinching at King's name before rallying to boast about the executives once more. When Child Emperor forces his way in, Sludge Jellyfish attacks, confident in his fluid form and in his immunity to the poison gas that has felled other monsters, only to be burst apart by oils the hero injects into him. He clings to life through his regeneration and appears again amid Child Emperor's duel with Evil Natural Water, but that creature absorbs his oils, and with the fluid gone his healing stops, leaving nothing but a withered husk. His crude fighting relied on wrapping up or crashing down onto foes, including the plunging body drop he calls Sludge Press.
