Winded by the heroes' assault, Garou is offered a last chance to quit. Death Gatling explains that he handpicked fighters who have faced death, and admits, when Garou scoffs that only S-Class opponents interest him, that the Hero Association is stacked with hidden tiers and that toppling the hero hunter would finally win his overlooked squad some respect. Garou's vision swims as Shooter's poison takes hold, yet he treats each hero as another step toward the monster he means to become. Turning their own weapons against them, he redirects Smile Man's kendama with his Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist, downs Gun Gun with a rebounding ball, deflects Shooter's volley using Wild Horn as a shield, and flings Glasses's thrown stones back hard enough to drop the archer. Stinger retreats, leaving Garou pleased at having beaten four of the eight.

A flashback reveals how Glasses, mocked and undervalued in the Blizzard Group, was the last survivor when Demonic Fan tore through them, only to be saved by Saitama, who told him that nothing but himself decides his limits, giving him the resolve to keep fighting. In the present Glasses stands firm and is beaten bloody, and when Stinger charges with Gigantic Drill Stinger to defend his pupil, Garou halts him and knocks him out. Cornered as the last man standing, Death Gatling unleashes his ammunition-emptying Death Shower, but Garou deflects nearly every round, shielding the shed where Tareo hides. Taunting the hero for relying on firearms and for not simply calling an S-Class, Garou crushes the Gatling gun. Tareo emerges, sees only the bloodlusted hunter and the fallen heroes, and flees in terror. A fresh blast then heralds Genos, rebuilt after his loss to Gouketsu, and the two trade blows evenly until Genos tricks Garou into a near-miss cannon shot. Garou counters by mimicking Watchdog Man's animal-like movement, tears off Genos's arm, and is caught by its cables, but rubs his own blood into his hair as monsters arrive to recruit him, all of whom Genos cuts down, stunned to learn Garou has Monster Association ties. As Genos declares himself the ultimate hero under Saitama's tutelage, Bang arrives and kicks his former disciple in the face, with Bomb following to handle the monsters, setting master and pupil against each other once more.

Garou single-handedly defeats Death Gatling's eight-hero squad despite being poisoned, shielding Tareo from Death Shower. A flashback ties Glasses's persistence to a past rescue by Saitama. The rebuilt Genos duels Garou to a standstill, learns of his Monster Association contacts, and is interrupted when Bang and Bomb arrive to confront their former student.

Titled The Varieties of Pride, this Monster Association Arc episode adapts chapters 81 through 83 plus the omake A New Wind Blows. It premiered in Japan on June 25, 2019, and in English on January 4, 2020, keeping Seijaku no Apostle and Chizu ga Nakute mo Modoru Kara. The adaptation adds an omake-sourced scene of Glasses meeting Demonic Fan and Saitama to explain his drive, plus an original moment of a young Garou first joining Bang's dojo.
