Chapter 55

Metal Bat trades blows evenly with Senior Centipede and Rafflesidon until the latter's gas leaves him staggering as if drunk and unable to steer his own body. Senior Centipede exploits the opening to wound him, but Metal Bat snaps out of the daze by injuring his own head, startling both creatures. When Senior Centipede lunges for a killing strike, the hero tears off its arm and then fells each monster with a lone swing apiece.

With the Demon-level pair down, the lower-ranked heroes Pineapple and Mohawk turn up, and Metal Bat asks them to ferry the sponsor and his son to a hospital so he can finally go help his sister. That plan collapses when Elder Centipede surfaces; the two heroes warn that it once leveled an entire town and carries a Dragon-level rating. Metal Bat orders them to grab the pair and flee while he readies himself to unleash everything he has.

Rafflesidon's gas disorients Metal Bat, who recovers by hurting his own head. He rips off Senior Centipede's arm and defeats both Demon-level monsters. Pineapple and Mohawk arrive, Elder Centipede emerges as a Dragon-level threat, and Metal Bat sends the others away to prepare for the fight.

Titled "Fighting Spirit" (Tonari 80 and 81), with the Viz rendering "Pumped Up," the chapter belongs to Volume 10 and the Monster Raid Arc and was adapted in Episode 16. In the volume release it was split in two, with the second half placed in Volume 11 under the title "Head-On."
