Sailor V Kick

Character

Sailor V Kick is Minako Aino's signature leaping kick, born in her Codename: Sailor V days and closely mirroring Sailor Moon's own kick. She launches it feet-first at a target, a plain physical assault that even Usagi tries to copy on her little brother early on.

Overview

Originating in Codename: Sailor V, this move is a purely physical leaping kick that closely resembles the later Sailor Moon Kick. Its first outing drops Takuro Otaku at the Game Center Crown arcade, and Sailor Venus revisits it once more in Act 11 of the main Sailor Moon manga.

Mechanics

The attacker drives forward and connects with her foot, usually aimed squarely at the opponent's head. In the anime it proves lethal when Minako slays a monster in England with a single strike to the face, that creature being the only one on record to fall to the technique. The same motion powers a couple of close variants, including the Sailor Kick that Venus throws while impersonating Sailor Moon and a comparable, unnamed strike Minako uses against a Pierrot in the live-action finale. Some fighting games repackage the whole thing under the name Venus Kick.

Notable Users

Minako Aino owns the move across both her Sailor V and Sailor Venus identities. Usagi also attempts it in the very first anime episode, aiming at her brother Shingo, but he shuts a door in her path and she only bruises her knee. That same botched kick against a door repeats in Act 1 of the manga and in the Crystal adaptation.
