Overview

Supreme Thunder Dragon is an electric technique wielded by Sailor Jupiter during the anime. Drawing power through her tiara, she builds up a current and then hurls it toward whoever she is fighting. Rather than a plain bolt, the released energy coils into the outline of a dragon as it travels.

The move is treated as a step beyond her standard Supreme Thunder, and it later feeds into an even stronger version, Super Supreme Thunder. Beyond her tiara, the technique relies on the Thunder and Lightning Antenna that rises to gather the charge.

Mechanics

Jupiter debuted the attack in a single installment, the ninth episode of the R season. The scene follows Makoto losing her temper after An crushed a boxed lunch she had made, which triggered a fight with An's Cardian, Utonberino. Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury arrived to help, but the monster bound all three of them with cords.

The Moonlight Knight then appeared and tossed a rose to Jupiter, cutting her free of the vines. From there she launched the new technique. It did not finish off the Cardian on its own, yet it drained the creature enough for Sailor Moon to end the fight with Moon Princess Halation. In the DiC dub, Jupiter delivered a line about calling on the forces of love and nature, while the Viz release reused her regular Supreme Thunder incantation.

Notable Users

Sailor Jupiter is the only character to perform the move. It also turned up in several games, including Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon R on the Super Famicom and Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Another Story, where the dragon-shaped thunder hits one foe at a time and costs three EP. The DiC English dub renamed the technique Jupiter Thunder Dragon.
