Venus Crystal Power, Make Up

This chant marks the last and highest of Minako Aino's transformation phrases. It carries her into her upgraded incarnations of Sailor Venus and shows up in every major branch of the franchise, from the source manga through the two anime continuities and the Sera Myu stage shows. Which tool answers the call depends on the version: the printed and Crystal stories rely on the Venus Crystal, while the original anime pairs it with the Crystal Change Rod.

In the manga and Crystal, Minako first speaks the words right after Artemis hands her the Venus Crystal in Act 44, restoring her Super form. The same phrase later opens the door to her Eternal form once she boosts Sailor Moon's Holy Moon Chalice with the strength of Magellan Castle. During Act 49 she lifts her hand and calls out Venus Crystal Power to charge Eternal Sailor Moon's Eternal Tiare, then rises into a look mirroring Sailor Moon's, styled as Eternal Sailor Venus. She repeats the henshin in Act 50 with the other Inner Guardians to take on Sailor Iron Mouse, and a final time in Act 52 atop Juban High School beside Rei, using it to prove to the Three Lights that they too are Guardians.

The animated take arrives in the fourth and fifth seasons, where the phrase lifts her into Super Sailor Venus. She raises the Crystal Change Rod, her nails flushing a yellow-orange, as an orange Venus-symbol gem trails a chain of leaves and a few roses. Golden star-banners pour from the rod and coil into a spiral around her; the stars fall away, then surge back up to sheathe her body before she settles into her closing pose. The sequence closely echoes her earlier transformation, the standout difference being a ring of roses that blooms behind her at the finish, along with brighter coloring and a small gesture of brushing her hair from her face.

Minako Aino alone speaks this phrase, in every medium that features her. A design note ties the rose wreath behind her final pose in the 1990s anime to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love who is called Venus in Roman myth.
