Ami's Father

His name is never given, and for a long stretch his face was hidden as well. The manga reveals it only once, glimpsed during an illusion that Fish Eye casts over Ami, and in that image he wears a hat and glasses. When Sailor Moon Eternal finally puts him on screen, the film keeps that same hat and pair of glasses lifted straight from the page.

He is an itinerant painter who keeps a thin but tender thread to his daughter, posting her artwork from distant places she enjoys picturing. Ami holds real affection for him, yet she also carries resentment over the way he walked out on her mother during an era when divorce still carried heavy stigma in Japan.

His presence in the story is slight. The anime only names him in the twenty-fourth episode of the SuperS season, where a painting of a mountain arrives from him, and it took the Eternal film to attach an actual face to the character. Because Japanese custom usually returns a divorced mother to her maiden name and passes it to the child, the surname Mizuno most likely belongs to Saeko, which makes its use for him something of a mislabel.
