Black Lady

Her figure mirrors the mature Black Lady of the manga, though the anime widens the slit running up her gown to a far more daring degree, a change that reportedly troubled creator Naoko Takeuchi.

Black Lady is the embodiment of Chibiusa's buried grief and insecurity, reforged into cold spite. Convinced that no one on Earth ever loved her, she lashes out at the very family she secretly longs for, serving Wiseman and the Black Moon Clan with venom. Traces of the child remain, however, surfacing in her attachment to Luna-P, and beneath the malice lies a wound that only genuine affection can close.

Wiseman at first sees no use in Chibiusa beyond her destruction, viewing the Legendary Silver Crystal as a barrier to seizing Crystal Tokyo. His view shifts once the beams from her forehead prove strong enough to fell the Boule Brothers, and he sets about exploiting that hidden power. When the present-day Guardians visit the Crystal Palace, a guilt-stricken Chibiusa, remembering that she once touched the Silver Crystal, flees beyond the barrier's protection. Wiseman finds her alone and frightened, convincing her that the Guardians would despise her if she confessed; she takes his hand and vanishes.

He feeds her the lie that no one on Earth cares for her and that she will be blamed for Crystal Tokyo's ruin, planting false memories of forgotten birthdays and of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion leaving her to fall in the rain. As her corruption deepens, Sailor Pluto senses it and hurries the Guardians back to their own time. Reborn as Black Lady, Chibiusa returns to 1990s Japan at the clan's side to help Prince Demande raise the Dark Gate.

The Guardians fail to place her until she shows tenderness toward Luna-P, which she even wields as a weapon by turning it into a badminton racket, unlike her manga self who cast the toy aside. Their attempts to reason with her falter, and Usagi's early healing is undone by Wiseman's hold. When Black Lady lends her body as a conduit to channel the Dark Gate's power into the Earth, she turns on Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask, and the others. Usagi rises as Neo-Queen Serenity, flooding Chibiusa's mind with memories of being loved, and when she tells the girl plainly that she loves her, the two embrace and Chibiusa is restored.
