Boss never steps into view anywhere in Codename: Sailor V, staying a disembodied guide rather than a character shown on the page. The label itself denotes a position of command and is not the figure's real name.

Boss carries clear authority. Minako, who freely grumbles at Artemis and his thin briefings, tends to obey Boss right away, a sign that this handler outranks the cat in her eyes. In private talks with Artemis, Boss pushes for the girl to be trained for the darkness ahead and to treat her calling with real seriousness.

Rather than traveling at Minako's side the way Artemis does, Boss feeds her guidance and intelligence by voice, reaching her mainly through her Transformation Pen, which raises a small antenna to catch the signal. The handler often flags Dark Agency schemes before Minako even senses trouble, telling her where to head and lending structure to the free-spirited girl's run as Sailor V.

Boss also digs into the Dark Agency's movements, gathering all it can on the group to help shield Earth. The identity behind the name is never confirmed, though some fans guess at Queen Serenity or Luna, given the aid that continues against the Dark Kingdom afterward.
