The Black Moon Clan's Droids are mechanical, human-shaped minions built to do its bidding across Sailor Moon. Forged from dark crystal in the manga or conjured out of crystalline sand in the anime, they run their masters' errands before crumbling apart in defeat.
How a Droid looks shifts with the continuity. Manga and Crystal render them as blank machines with neither eyes nor mouths, able only to screech rather than talk. Those in the anime frequently pass for regular humans, and each hides a colored gem stamped with a crescent, the Black Moon emblem, somewhere on its body. Once a Droid is slain, it stiffens into glassy crystal and cracks apart beneath its own weight, leaving a heap of sparkling blue sand around the gem, which darkens to black.
In the anime that gem is the real core of the machine. It stirs loose sand into a standing body and channels its orders, so that whichever Black Moon member assembles a Droid decides its mind, its powers, its temperament, even its face. Certain ones, such as Atsugessho, string together full sentences, while others, like Marzipan, do no more than say their own name. Any menace they pose is written into their programming rather than sprung from real wickedness.
The manga assigns their creation to Saphir, who builds them with the Malefic Black Crystal and considers Veneti and Aquatici his finest pair. Within the anime, the Spectre Sisters initially unleash them to capture Crystal Points, and after Rubeus dies, Esmeraude turns them loose to seed the city's soft spots with dark energy. Droids recur beyond those stories as well, popping up in the stage musicals and in various video games as named opponents. Their entire concept tips its hat to the droids of Star Wars.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
Droids are mechanical, human shaped minions of the Black Moon Clan that appear throughout Sailor Moon. In the manga they are forged from dark crystal, while the anime conjures them out of crystalline sand.
In the manga, Saphir builds the Droids using the Malefic Black Crystal. In the anime, individual Black Moon Clan members assemble each Droid, which is why their minds, powers, and appearances vary so widely.
Once defeated, a Droid stiffens into glassy crystal and cracks apart under its own weight, leaving behind a heap of sparkling blue sand around its gem, which then darkens to black.
The entire concept of the Droids is a direct homage to the droids of Star Wars.
Each Droid's gem is its true core, animating loose sand into a body and channeling the orders of whichever Black Moon Clan member assembled it, which is why some Droids speak in full sentences while others can only repeat their own name.
